چکیده

The effect of endogenous serotonin on long-term potentiating (LTP) in region CA1 was studied by blocking 5-HT2 receptors with ketanserin in rat hippocampal slices. Such a block significantly enhanced long-term potentiation of the CA1 population spike induced by high frequency stimulation of the schaffer collateral/ commissural pathway. This implies that serotonin acts on 5-HT2 receptors in CA1 to repress long-term potentiation. Iran. Biomed. J. 2: 129-131, 1998

Role of adenosine receptors and protein phosphatases in the reversal of pentylenetetrazol-induced potentiation phenomenon by theta pulse stimulation in the CA1 region of rat hippocampal slices

The effect of theta pulse stimulation (TPS) on pentylenetetrazol (PTZ)-induced long-term potentiation of population spikes (PS) was studied in the hippocampal CA1 in vitro. A transient PTZ application produced a long-lasting enhancement of PS amplitude. A 3-min episode of TPS delivered at a higher intensity produced complete reversal of the PTZ potentiation when delivered during the last minute...

Conservation of glutamate receptor 2-containing AMPA receptors during long-term potentiation.

Long-term potentiation (LTP) at hippocampal synapses is thought to involve the insertion of AMPA receptors into the postsynaptic membrane. Conflicting evidence exists as to whether calcium-permeable receptors are inserted during LTP and whether synaptic activity mediated by the newly inserted AMPA receptors is required to maintain the increase in synaptic strength. Here, we rigorously test thes...

Recruitment of calcium-permeable AMPA receptors during synaptic potentiation is regulated by CaM-kinase I.

Ca(2+)-permeable AMPA receptors (CP-AMPARs) at central glutamatergic synapses are of special interest because of their unique biophysical and signaling properties that contribute to synaptic plasticity and their roles in multiple neuropathologies. However, intracellular signaling pathways that recruit synaptic CP-AMPARs are unknown, and involvement of CP-AMPARs in hippocampal region CA1 synapti...
